Whimsy While I Wait

As I wait for my surgery date, I’ve found myself leaning into creativity in the sweetest way—through whimsy art. There’s something about creating little worlds of delight that helps my heart breathe deeper. A doll-like girl with curls too big for her bow, a teddy bear sitting quietly among golden lights, a giraffe with eyes full of stories, or even a swirl of cupcake frosting crowned with berries—each one feels like a little smile waiting to be shared.
Creating these pieces has become a gift in this season. It reminds me that joy can bloom even in uncertain times. My hands may be waiting, but my heart doesn’t have to be idle—it can dance with color, shape, and imagination.
And isn’t that a picture of life with God? Even in the in-between, He gives us beauty to notice, creativity to explore, and laughter to lighten the load.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” — Colossians 3:17 (ESV)
So today, while I wait, I create. And in every brushstroke of whimsy, I whisper a prayer of gratitude.
Maybe you’re in a waiting season too. If so, I hope these little glimpses of whimsy remind you that joy can be found right where you are.
