When I look back over the years, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the places I’ve had the privilege to visit, the cultures I’ve experienced, and the people I’ve met along the way. Each trip has left its mark on my heart — shaping me, teaching me, and reminding me of the vastness of God’s love for the world.
I’ve walked the ancient streets of Israel, stood in the midst of worship in Kenya with Mary and Wallace Kamau, traveled to Thailand with Dianna and Kaylie, witnessed the powerful work of AIM in Cambodia, spent time in Armenia, seen the beauty of Australia, been embraced by the joyful spirit of the Philippines, and finally fulfilled a dream by serving in Guatemala. What a gift it has been to not just see the world, but to learn from it — from the resilience of the people, the beauty of their lives, and the reminder that God’s love is for all nations.
Some moments are etched into my soul:
✨ Israel — Serving at a boys’ home and watching young boys grow into godly men has been one of the greatest blessings. Even more life-changing was walking where Jesus walked — tracing the very streets where He performed miracles, and even walking the Via Dolorosa, the road He carried the cross. Experiencing that walk in person made Scripture come alive. Now, when I read my Bible, I see the places, feel the stones under my feet, and remember that my Savior walked there out of love for me.
✨ Thailand — I will never forget my first time on Walking Street. Rows of young girls lined up, waiting. Just outside, even more girls stood hoping to be chosen. Then came the buses, unloading tourists ready to pick up these precious children as if they were nothing more than entertainment. My heart broke wide open. That night I knew — I could never look away again.
✨ Kenya — Walking up to the school our church sponsors, the gates swung wide open. Suddenly, dozens of children burst into song and dance, their smiles radiant as they welcomed us. It was a glimpse of heaven — joy uncontained, hope alive, God’s love overflowing in the most beautiful way.
✨ Philippines — In the midst of poverty, I saw homes so full of color and joy that they sparkled with life. Children laughed and played, and their houses — though small and simple — radiated happiness. It was truly a happy place, a reminder that joy isn’t about possessions but about the spirit that fills a home.
✨ Guatemala — I had always dreamed of going to Guatemala to help care for babies with World Help. And then, in the most unexpected way, God opened the door — I actually won the trip at a Leading and Loving It conference! WOOHOO! What joy it was to bring a few of my friends along and to see firsthand the incredible work that LALI and World Help are doing. My heart was so full — not only because of the babies we got to love on, but because I was able to share that moment with dear friends. Truly, a dream fulfilled!
And through all of these experiences, I’ve had my people on trips: Lisa, Dianna, and Kaylie. Each one brings something special, but I’m especially grateful for Lisa. She’s often been the string to mine and Dianna’s balloons! While we’re ready to charge in with hearts on fire to rescue, Lisa reminds us that real change comes when we build carefully and wisely. She has helped us dream bigger but also plant seeds that will last.
As I think about these journeys, my heart swells with gratitude. For the opportunity to go. For the friendships formed. For the lessons learned. For the children, women, and men I’ve met whose lives and stories have changed me forever.
“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”— Psalm 96:3 (ESV)
🙏 Prayer
Lord, thank You for opening my eyes to the beauty and brokenness of this world. Thank You for the people, the stories, and the opportunities to see how wide and deep Your love is for every nation. Help me to always respond with compassion, to act with wisdom, and to carry Your heart for the nations wherever I go. Amen.
💭 Reflection Question
Where has God opened your eyes to His heart for the nations, either through travel, stories, or meeting someone from another culture?
