Grateful for Taste, Healing, and Whimsical Joy

This past week, Covid slowed me down in more ways than one. I didn’t have the energy to write, so the blog sat quietly… but I did have just enough strength to play with some whimsy on my computer. Out of that rest came these two cutie chickens who made me smile through the tiredness. Aren’t they just the happiest little characters?

One of the strangest (and saddest!) parts of this round of Covid was losing my taste and smell. 😩 But today — praise God! — I can taste again 🙌🏼. And let me tell you, there is nothing sweeter than being able to enjoy Chuck’s cooking after days of blandness. What a gift taste is… something so simple that we often take for granted until it’s gone.

As I sit here reflecting, I realize I’m also deeply grateful for God’s timing. If I had gotten sick even a few days later, I would have had to reschedule my upcoming surgery. Instead, He worked it out perfectly — even in the middle of the unexpected.

Sometimes gratitude shows up in the little things:

  • A home-cooked meal full of flavor.

  • A burst of laughter over a whimsical creation.

  • God’s gentle reminder that His timing is always good.

Even in sickness, there are blessings hidden all around us if we take time to notice.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)

So today, I’m choosing joy. I’m choosing gratitude. And I’m celebrating every single flavor-filled bite and every whimsical brushstroke of life.

What small gift are you thankful for today?
